FPA Check-It-Out Adoption Library:
To review brief descriptions of the books available from the library, click here. To borrow a book, send an e-mail to librarian@ffpa.org or call (301) 656-1982 (evenings). Loans can also be arranged at FPA events. Borrowers must be members of FPA.

Education Programs:
FPA hosts several educational programs each year. These programs are free to members, ($10 per person for non-members). Subjects are chosen based on membership survey and feedback. For currently scheduled seminars click on FPA Events.

FPA Newsletter:
The newsletter is mailed to members and ties the support, education and networking roles together by providing:

  • Members adoption stories
  • Supplemental adoption education
  • Book reviews
  • Legislative updates

FPA Seminar - Your Adoption Homepage -- "How To" Manual for waiting parent(s) to advertise on the Internet for adopting a child.

Referral lists for local adoption professionals are available to FPA members.

Red Line

Successful Private Adoption Workshop:
The workshop is the starting point in the adoption journey for many Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC couples seeking to adopt. Attendees receive six hours of instruction and advice including presentations by attorneys, social workers, birth parents and adoptive parents. Cost is $75 (at the door) and $65 (pre-registered). Cost includes a comprehensive workbook, "The Adoption Book" (170 pages of tips, referrals and guidelines). A continental breakfast and lunch are included. Early registration is encouraged, but you may also register at the seminar. Topics include: legal information, home study, open adoption or retaining confidentiality, ways to avoid contested adoptions, advertising strategies and birth parent perspectives. Arrangements can be made for waiting parents wishing to receive the workbook prior to the workshop. A workbook can be ordered at anytime by sending a check for $30.00 to FPA; P.O. Baby Care Classes:
These classes, taught by a nurse certified as a child care educator, are geared specifically to adopting parents and customized to your adoption circumstances (domestic, international, etc.). The class costs $100.00; of which $10.00 comes to Families for Private Adoption.
